5 Tips To Get Started In Photoshop – Photoshop Tutorial

In this tutorial I share 5 Tips That Will Help you get started in Adobe Photoshop. I also call this “5 Things I wish I would have known when I started in Photoshop. When working in Photoshop, there are times when I figure something out and I say to myself “Many If I only would have known that a few months ago I would have saved so much time. Hopefully these 5 Tips will do that for you.

Here are the 5 Tips in no particular order:

1.) Hold Shift While Dragging Objects keep the object proportionate. When you hold down the Shift key while dragging an object (this could be a shape, image, or any other smart object within Photoshop) it will stay on a straight line. If you are moving an object vertical and you press the Shift key before you start moving it, it will stay lined up with the start point.

2.) Double clicking a layer in the layers panel unlocks the layer. If you go over to the layers panel and you double click on a layer it will prompt you to rename the layer and once you click OK it will now be unlocked.

3.) Pressing CTRL/CMND + T on your keyboard brings up the transform options for you to manipulate your object/layer. When you hold the Command (On A Mac) and Control (On A Windows) and press T you will then be able to transform that object.

4.) Removing a background by using the Magic Wand tool (Simplest way of doing this and the most basic) NOT THE ONLY WAY TO DO THIS! When you have an image and you want to remove the background the easiest way to do this is to grab the Magic Wand tool and then click somewhere on the background that you are wanting to delete. You then need to look and adjust if photoshop didn’t detect the background exactly as you wanted, and do some fine tuning. Once you have the back ground selected you then will press the DELETE key on your keyboard to remove the background. After you do this the background will now be transparent.

5.) Pressing H and moving your cursor While using the ZOOM tool allows you to select which part of your canvas that you want to zoom in to! If you have the Zoom tool selected press the H key and Photoshop will then Pan out for you to see your entire project. You will then see a black box around your cursor. Move this cursor to where you want to zoom in and let go and it will now zoom into the exact location that the black square is at.

How To Change the DPI Of An Image in Photoshop – Photoshop Tutorial

In this video tutorial I show you how to easily change the DPI (Dots Per Inch) of an image. The DPI of an image effects the quality of the image when it is sent to the printer.

Follow these steps:

1.) Go to image — Image Size

2.) Once you are under the Image Size panel box you will see an option that says Resolution.

3.) Change the number by Resolution and this will change the DPI

By changing the DPI it will affect the way the image prints and the clarity at which it prints for certain sizes.

Make sure you speak with the company or person who will be printing your images/projects to full understand what you need to set your DPI to.

How to create a Rain Effect in Photoshop

In this video tutorial I show you how to create a rain effect in Photoshop.

Step by step instructions:

1.) Crete a new layer

2.) Paint that layer black with your paint bucket tool. (Foreground Color is black and background color is white).

3.) Filter — Render — Fibers

4.) Set your variance anywhere from 60-75 and strength from 10-15

5.) Decrease the opacity of the top layer to 25-35

6.) Filter — Blur — Motion Blur

7) Set your angle to 63 and distance to 60-65

Photoshop Tutorial: Create Rainbow Eyes in Photoshop

In this photoshop tutorial I show you how to create Rainbow Eyes in Photoshop. It is a fun technique that will really impress your friends and family!

In order to create Rainbow Eyes in Photoshop follow the following steps:

1.) Select the image that you want to apply the effect to. (Make sure the ENTIRE eye is visible and that the eyelashes are not in the way).

2.) Create a new layer to add the color on

3.) Select your paint brush tool and grab very vibrant colors and paint different colored dots all around the eye on your new layer. (Avoid getting any color in the pupil)

4.) After you have dones this you will need to change the blend mode of your layer to Overlay.

5.) Adjust your opacity of this layer down to 25-45 depending on the picture and the amount of color you want to show.

6.) The last thing that you want to do is select your color layer and apply a motion blur by going to Filter — Blur — Motion Blur

Photoshop Tutorial – Apply Digital Tattoos In Photoshop

In this video tutorial I show you how to apply digital tattoos in Photoshop.

In order to apply a digital tattoo to your subject in Photoshop you need to do the following:

1.) First you need to have your subject in a separate file than your Tattoo design.

2.) Next, you need to open up your tattoo design and select your magic wand tool and delete all of the white background. (The background needs to be transparent).

3.) After your ENTIRE background of your design is transparent you can then drag it over to your subject image.

4.) Make sure that the “Show Transform Controls” is checked in the upper left hand corner.

5.) Resize and rotate your tattoo on your subject the way you want it and place the design.

6.) Change the layer blend mode to “Multiply”

7.) Take the opacity of your design layer down to 75-85

8.) Apply a Gaussian blur to your design layer

You have now applied a Digital Tattoo in photoshop!
