How To Use Youtube Annotations To Gain More Subscribers and Views

Youtube provides content creators with all types of different tools to improve their content and to also become more relevant. Youtube annotations is one of those tools. Youtube annotations are a very underused tool and I believe that they are crucial to becoming successful on youtube.

I am going to show you how to use youtube annotations to improve your youtube channel.

First we need to understand what an annotation is. Annotations are text/links that you place on top of your videos. They are overlaid on your videos in locations and durations that you choose. Annotations allow you to link from one video to another, directly to your subscribe page, playlists, and much more. If you want to have a successful youtube channel you MUST master annotations.

[box type=”warning”] DO NOT over use annotations because the main content is your video. The best way to implement annotations is to do it so the viewer doesn’t even know they are there.[/box]

Different Types of Annotations

Youtube provides many different types of annotations that can be used for specific purposes.

  1. Speech Bubble
  2. Notes
  3. Title
  4. Spotlight
  5. Label

Speech bubble annotations are used to say something during your video OR you can also link from a speech bubble.

Youtube Annotation

The note annotation is very similar to speech bubble. The only difference is that you will not see a bubble shape coming from the bottom. It is also used to place direct text or a link.

Youtube Annotations

The next type of annotation is the Title annotation. This specific annotation is great for transitions and title screens. It allows you to place title text on top of your video.

Youtube Title Annotation

Next, is the spotlight annotation. This one is a little more advanced than the rest of the annotations. It allows you to place a border around a specific object in your video for viewers to click on. This annotation can really add some style to your videos!

Youtube Annotations

The Label Annotation is another advanced annotation that allows you to place a label like border in your videos. You can also link from this annotation as well.

Youtube Annotations

The last type of annotation is the Pause Annotations. This one allows you to pause your video in a specific spot to allow your viewers to see something specific.

How To Add Annotations to Your Videos:

1.) To add annotations to your videos you need to be logged into your youtube account and go to your video manager.

Youtube Video Manager

2.) Next, you need to select the video you want to add an annotation to and click on the edit button.

Youtube Edit Button

3.) Once you are in the youtube editor at the top of the page you will see an annotations link. Click this link.

4.) After you are in the annotations editor you will see a button on the right side of the screen that says “Add Annotation”, click on the drop down arrow and select the type of annotation you want to use.

5.) Once you have chosen the annotation that you want to use just type in your text and move the annotation by clcking and holding and draging it wherever you want it on the video. In order to change the duration at which the annotation shows up you need to drag it on the timeline at the bottom of the screen OR you can set the exact time in the time box on the side.

How To Link To A Video or Subscription Page:

If you want your annotation to link to your subscribe page OR to a different video of yours you need to select the link box on the annotations page.

When you have selected the link box you will then be given the option to either link to a video, subscription page, playlist, or channel. Select the one that you want to link to and place the link in the box.

After you have your annotation the way you want it click on the save button and then click publish in the top right hand corner.

How To Monetize and Make Money From Your Youtube Videos

There are a ton of scams on the internet on how you can make thousands of dollars in a few days. This is just absolutely wrong. On the internet there are no real get rich quick schemes that actually work.

Youtube is the 2nd largest search engine behind Google (It also happens to be owned by Google as well). With this being said, there is a huge opportunity to use Youtube to make money.

Frequently Asked Questions about Making Money on Youtube:

Question 1: Will I make a lot of money?

Answer: The opportunity to make a good amount of money is there BUT it will take some time and it is not going to happen over night.

Question 2: How much will I make?

Answer: This all depends on if you stick with it, and how good your content is. (You could make as little as a dollar and as much as you are willing to put in the time for).

Question 3: Do I have to be a partner to monetize my videos?

Answer: NO

Below, I have listed the steps you need to take to monetize your Youtube channel.

[box type=”info”] You have to have at least 3-5 videos uploaded on your channel in order to monetize your videos.[/box]

First, you must login to your youtube account and click on your channel name in the upper right hand corner and select settings.

Once you are in your settings panel you will see monetization option in the lower left hand corner of the screen, find this option and click on it.

After you click on the monetization settings you will see a big blue button in the middle of the screen that says “Enable”. Click on this and it will take you to a terms and service page. Accept all of googles terms and you will be ready to monetize your videos.

Once you have your account set up for monetization you will see an option after you have uploaded a video to place ads on it. You will need to go into this option and enable ads for each video you upload.

Go to video manager from your channel and you will see an option next to your uploaded videos with a dollar sign. Click on this option and it will take you into the monetization options. This will be where you will come each time you want to place ads on a video.

When you are in the monetization settings you will see a paragraph stating that you own all of the content in your video and there is no copyright material in your video. If this is true, click on the “Got It” button”. This will now place ads on that specific video.

[box type=”warning”] Remember, you must own all of the content in your video OR have permission from the content creator to put ads on your videos. If you do not abide by Google’s rules and regulations you will be at risk to lose your Youtube Account.[/box]

Also, you must have an Google Adsense account set up in order to place ads and collect your money that you have earned.
